At Nielsen House our effective team work is one of the secrets to our ability to consistently deliver beautiful spaces faithful to our clients wishes. We each bring a unique skill set to the table which establishes a workplace that thrives creative vision and operational effectiveness.

Our Roots

Over the years Nielsen House creator and director Sarah has built a renowned, international reputation for her work. With a whole world of understanding in good design, Sarah has made her mark in numerous cities around the globe prior to settling in the stunning Lake District with her family.

Early in her career, Sarah had gained a wealth of international interior design and project management experience working for a southern Knightsbridge firm of architects Michael Lyell Associates. Consequently her established, signature style can be seen in London, Moscow, Paris, Saudi Arabia and particularly the new build developments of villas, exclusive bars, restaurants, and hotel suites in the Middle East, most notably Dubai.

After 10 years of hard work, travel and success, Sarah returned to the UK to set up Nielsen House. Since, she has carefully built a team of experts around her to research, support and deliver the sought after service and signature design Nielsen House delivers to clients.

We are now an established team of passionate creatives that work seamlessly together to deliver the ongoing vision that is Nielsen House.

Sarah

Our Team

Gemma and Laura collectively have 16 year experience as fashion designers which has provided our team with a fantastic understanding of fabric, colour combinations and the creation of a vision. Gemma has a commercial approach to the design process, which teamed with Laura’s ability to find one of a kind bespoke items ensures projects move forward whilst staying true to the initial artistic concept.

Laura has a talent for building, strong and deservedly trustworthy relationships, firstly with our clients, and of course with new suppliers, brands and products.

Elle a student of Interior Design through KLC School of Design, brings a fresh passion, perspective and enthusiasm to the team. Her theoretical knowledge and passion for modern and classic art, ensures all opportunities are unearthed and considered.

Martin, an expert in operational management, is the glue that bonds the creative vision to the process, management and timely installation of our interiors. In his nine years experience, Martin has succeeded in increasing the operational efficiency of many firms, some of which led to rapid international growth.

Sarah

Nielsen House creator and director Sarah has a whole world of understanding in good design having made her mark in numerous cities around the globe prior to settling in the stunning Lake District with her family.

Following her Fine Art and Design Degree, Sarah began her professional career in Edinburgh, designing brasserie cafes and bars. This success led her to join a southern Knightsbridge firm of architects Michael Lyell Associates as a project designer for interior restoration.

After 10 years Sarah had gained a wealth of international interior design and project management experience. Her established, signature style can be seen in London, Moscow, Paris, Saudi Arabia and particularly the new build developments of villas, exclusive bars, restaurants, and hotel suites in the Middle East, most notably Dubai.

Since returning to the UK and setting up a home in the Lake District Sarah won a place amongst the top contenders for Channel 5’s ‘I own Britain's Best Home 2008’ and has gone on to restore and renovate many traditional Lakeland properties.

Gemma

Gemma born in Kendal, studied her BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree in Nottingham before moving to London to pursue a career in Fashion. Successful in her efforts Gemma has 10 years experience working as a women's wear designer for large international high street retailers.

After 8 years, Gemma returned to the Lake District to bring up her family, husband, 2 boys and a dog! Keen to embrace the outdoor lifestyle in this inspiring beautiful part of the world.

A career in fashion provided Gemma with a fantastic understanding of fabric, colour combinations and the creation of a vision. Her commercial approach to the creative design process ensures our projects are always moving forward while staying true to the identity of the initial artistic concept.

Cheerful by nature Gemma has infectious enthusiasm for design and loves working in a team, always keeping an eye on maintaining the detail and quality in every project, she assures and exceeds the expectations of our clients.

Martin

Our Chartered Certified Accountant Martin has nine years’ experience helping predominantly forward-thinking design and tech businesses through periods of expansion and development.

Martin joined the company following his work on a multi-million-pound refurbishment and development of a new destination restaurant in Northumberland. He also succeeded in helping businesses increase the efficiency of their operations, leading to rapid international growth.

An expert in operations management, Martin delivers the highest level of client service, ensuring all our projects run smoothly, on time and on budget. His broad experience and ability to ‘make things happen’ in terms of processes and productivity enables the team’s creative acumen to continuously flourish.

Laura

Laura grew up locally spending her childhood in Lancaster and Sedbergh before studying in Fashion Design Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University. After graduating she moved to London to work in Fashion Design and Product Development. Laura spent 6 years here gaining invaluable experience working for premium fashion brands such as Browns, Lyle & Scott and All Saints.

Similar to Sarah and Gemma, she returned to the Lake District for her partner and the country lifestyle. Laura is a happy, welcoming people person always building relationships with new suppliers, brands and products, to the benefit of our clients and the creative process.

Laura has a supportive and professional character, which combined with her talent in finding bespoke items, eye for style and detail puts our clients at ease. They are deservedly confident that she will deliver on all aspects of the unique and often personal brief.

Elle

Studying Interior Design through KLC School of Design, Elle applies her theoretical knowledge to her role at Nielsen House. New to the industry, Elle is full of enthusiasm, spirit and fresh ideas. With extensive customer service experience, Elle is a warm, friendly character who builds great relationships with our clients.

Inspired by the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District and a variety of classic and contemporary artists, Elle’s passion for art and landscape means she brings a unique and colourful approach to the team.

Her style is simplistic, elevated by bold features in the form of abstract art, vibrant colours, and statement accessories and furniture.
