Beautiful Mallorquin Interior Design that makes us feel at home
An interior–architectural dialogue shaped by landscape, lifestyle, and longevity

This Mallorquin luxury home concept was commissioned by an existing UK client already living within a Nielsen House designed family home in the Lake District.

The brief was not to replicate their UK home, but to extend its architectural and interior logic into a Mediterranean context. Maintaining continuity of spatial experience, material finishing, and long-term liveability, while responding appropriately to place, climate, and lifestyle.
For clients operating across borders, homes are part of a wider life structure. This project represents a considered expansion of how and where life is lived, rather than a departure from what already works.

Architecture and interior working in parallel
From the outset, this project was approached as a collaborative exercise between architecture and interior design, rather than a sequential process. Working alongside local architect Alice Chadwick allowed the interior vision and architectural layout to develop in tandem.
Alice’s architectural thinking and CAD expertise brought rigour and spatial clarity to the design, supporting a well-resolved framework within which interior layers could be carefully composed. This alignment ensured that proportion, circulation, and architectural intent were established early on, allowing interior detailing, materiality, and finishes to sit naturally within the structure, rather than being applied retrospectively.
This kind of collaboration consistently results in calmer, more coherent homes where architecture and interior design reinforce one another rather than compete for attention.

Translating context, not replicating form
As with the client’s Lake District home, the Mallorcan concept is grounded in its relationship to landscape. However, the response is distinctly Mediterranean.
The design prioritises orientation, light, and flow, supporting a slower pace of living and a more fluid relationship between inside and out. Interior decisions are informed by architectural moves, while architectural gestures are softened and enriched through material layering and spatial rhythm.
The aim was continuity of experience, not aesthetic repetition.

Informed by lived experience in Mallorca
Following my family’s relocation to Mallorca in 2022, we gained first-hand understanding of the island’s pace, climate, and understated elegance. That experience continues to inform how we approach projects in the region, particularly in terms of restraint, longevity, and the importance of calm, well-balanced spaces.
Although now back in the UK, the professional relationships formed during that period have developed into a trusted network of local architects, consultants, and craftspeople. This enables us to work confidently across locations while maintaining consistency in design quality and delivery.

A home designed to evolve
For this client, the project coincided with a natural shift in family life. With teenagers growing up, the brief focused on refining the home into a more composed and adaptable environment. One that supports both shared family life and individual retreat.
Design decisions were guided by flexibility, durability, and spatial balance, ensuring the home can evolve without requiring fundamental reconfiguration.

The Nielsen House approach
Nielsen House interiors are defined by Scandinavian-influenced restraint and architectural sensitivity. In this Mallorcan concept, that approach is expressed through:
- Clear spatial hierarchy
- Soft, architectural forms
- Layered natural materials
- Balanced acoustics and measured transitions
- Finishes that enhance architecture rather than dominate it
Each decision is considered in relation to how the home functions over time, not simply how it presents visually.

Architecture, interior, and landscape in conversation
Whether in the Lake District or Mallorca, our intention remains consistent: to design homes where architecture, interior, and landscape are in dialogue.
This project reflects our belief that enduring homes are not defined by geography alone, but by the quality of collaboration, clarity of intent, and thoughtfulness with which they are designed to support everyday life.
It was a real pleasure collaborating with Alice Chadwick on this project presentation. Her architectural clarity and CAD expertise brought real structure to the layouts and supported a beautifully aligned interior vision.
