2024 design trends and predictions are one thing….
We work with many high finish, top end Design Houses throughout Europe. There is no doubt Luxurious damasks and exotic prints full of colour and opulence are in high demand. Of course, Design trends are cyclical ….. there is a time and a place for the resurgence of archival prints, weaves and in extra-large formats created brilliantly through new technology in the design industry. If you have been around long enough like us, we have seen most of it before in one form or another. The difference and added appeal in 2024 is the excellent standards of re production and resilient practicality of fabrics and materials in production. There is very little out there that will not satisfy the discerning clients curiosity! I notice particularly, although contemporary in design and manufacture window dressing layering alone is reminiscent of years gone by.
Maybe and understandably after the year we’ve had, these joyful expressions are out there to make us feel better. Interior Decoration which is lavish and celebratory, considering the external turmoil of the world.

A great deal of what I am learning and experiencing working between our beautiful English Lake District and Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana is a slower, considered living. Less embellished and so much more natural, sensory interior design and from the heart.
This is an attitude to interior design that offers lifestyle choices, longevity through sustainable interior design and therefore added value and worth. The considered investment you make with your home today is tied to your internal awareness and holistic wellbeing.
Think of your space as a neutral canvas or soft backdrop to how you want to express yourself and your personal loves. What makes you feel good? It may well be lavish statements of colour and pattern; however, this is just an alternative offering.
In our interiors the colour should be soft and Matt, although it needn’t be beige, greige or off white, there is a wealth of exciting colour palettes out there via well-known paint houses such as Farrow & Ball and The Little Green Paint Co, we are a huge fan of suggestive French tones such as “Melisse des Bois” “Mousse de Pres” or “Kombu Ocre” ,Couleurs de Terre by ARGILE vegetal, exceptional pastels that cry out for sophisticated directional and considered lighting schemes.
At Nielsen House we suggest you combine layers, textures and sculpture that tonally works together with the colour palette you have selected. Then add your layers, sheers, linens, boucle, weaves and waxed cottons.
Nothing in your home should be jarring. That doesn’t mean to say you can’t express yourself, just consider how your choices will make you feel a season or two down the line.
Personally, I follow my heart with every decision. my personal instincts and my visual and tactile design pleasures nurture my daily self-perception and emotional well-being.

Discovering inner awareness as a natural, sensory interior design direction allows you to create the home and environment you deserve, and those around you will benefit holistically from it.
I find reaching for what’s inside rather than letting outside influences and materialism direct you does provide a comfortable place to live, feel empowered and sometimes just exist. Enjoy and experience a great sense of calm when outside the world is turning upside down.
There is no controlling what will be in the battlefield of religious beliefs and territorial command. It is happening and cannot be ignored. The power struggles that exist between neighbouring nations and political leaders just emphasis our need to live and breathe in comfort and safety where we can. We can unite to help change and promote understanding and respect for others however, without any certainty, and with our first step we can learn to adapt our reaction to it and how it affects your and your loved ones immediate wellbeing.
At Nielsen House Healthy Nurture and love will prevail. I believe if you have the ability to make someone happy through whatever skill set you command, then just do it and reap the rewards.
Considered and excellent bespoke interior design is a gift and what a gift!
Don’t ignore that the Interior Home Design you create for yourself has a huge impact on your self-perception and the effect possible external influences could have on you and your family.
Don’t let that negative effect happen. Take control and create surroundings that make you feel the best you can feel from the inside out.
With love
Sarah
