Indulge in Sensory Luxury for Your Dream Bathroom

May 1st 2024

During the re-modeling and extension of this Lake District boathouse, our returning clients sought reassurance in detail, durability, and performance. Moving into the later stage of their lives, they knew this would be their last major home renovation. It was essential that they could move easily and comfortably on a single floor.

We are deeply passionate about sensory interior design, and working with long-standing clients makes the process even more rewarding. Over the years, we have developed a strong understanding of their personal needs and preferences – sometimes uncovering insights they hadn’t even considered.

Each interior space we design is finely tuned to the owner’s specific requirements. In this case, the home needed to accommodate a progressive degenerative disease, making bespoke, comfortable, and beautiful spaces an absolute priority.

Each interior space is carefully tailored to the owner’s unique needs. In this case, our clients faced an increasingly debilitating and degenerative disease, making their concerns even more pressing.

Creating bespoke, comfortable, and beautiful spaces was essential. The bedroom suite required the most careful planning, ensuring it provided a safe yet luxurious haven for daily activities without compromise.

She shared our love for fine details, a soft colour palette, and exquisite finishes. However, it was equally important to ensure she felt safe and secure in her space.

We carefully considered every element, from the bath’s size, weight, and height to its easy-to-grip rim. A clear surrounding area minimized risk in case of a fall. The shower featured a custom-tiled seat and widened entry, ensuring easy access to well-lit spaces. All controls were intuitive and fuss-free.

For added convenience, a sturdy towel rail was placed within easy reach upon exiting the shower. The vanity design was sleek and well-lit, with double-sided mirrored cabinets to allow a full view from every angle. Finally, a discreetly placed TV provided a luxurious touch, visible from the bathtub.

This client particularly enjoys the tactile beauty of wave-matte porcelain tiles, natural stones, and ceramics, enhancing both comfort and aesthetics.

Our head designer, Sarah, encourages clients to think ahead about how their bathroom sounds and feels. Imagine the soothing rush of water filling a carefully selected freestanding bath, or the way your showerhead disperses water – whether as a waterfall, deluge, or soft rainfall. The choice is yours, creating a personal spa experience tailored to your senses.

At the luxury end of the market, there is a vast range of exceptional (and not-so-great) products available. Take your time. Just as you would test a sofa for comfort, ask to experience a sample before committing. If it doesn’t meet your expectations, keep searching.

Even your WC involves sensory considerations, ensuring every aspect of your bathroom is designed for comfort, relaxation, and functionality.

Our designs often incorporate natural wall and floor finishes, including materials that repel water while enhancing aesthetics.

A lifelong passion of mine is creating sensory-rich interiors in wet areas, particularly through the use of natural stone. We illuminate these materials sculpturally and sensitively, enhancing their texture and depth.

We continuously seek out the most unique and tactile finishes, bringing interiors to life with bespoke beauty and character. Whether designing a Lake District retreat or a Mallorca finca, we ensure each space is crafted to meet the highest standards of luxury and design.

Natural wall and floor applied finishes as well as those that repel water can be seen in many of our designs. One of my lifelong passions to ensure great sensory design in wet areas is of course the use of natural stone and how the surface is lit, sculpturally and sensitively. I will personally continue to source and search for the most unique and tactile finishes and tiling to bring our interior design spaces to life with bespoke interest and beauty for all our discerning clients to enjoy.

Sarah Jane Nielsen has been delivering Luxury Interior Design worldwide for over 30 years, and her belief is that Interior Design can only be described as “Luxury” if the end result provides that all-round enjoyment of the senses. Don’t rely solely on an expensive price tag!
