Retreat By The River
When asked to redesign this charming four bedroom timber chalet we were delighted. Situated on a river bank and hidden amongst the trees, this home had plenty of potential. The owners sought a tranquil escape that could, if desired, double up as a holiday rental.

Typical of chalets, there’s a shiplap panelling that runs throughout. It perfectly marries with the Scandinavia meets Lake District style. We wanted to showcase the spectacular Lake District views in every room and therefore opted for a simple aesthetic.
Natural textures and finishes on a backdrop of soft greys, accentuate the views beyond and ensures the space felt relaxing and welcoming.

An authentic log fire created a homely, cosy centre piece in the living room, chosen to add a comforting warmth in the winter months. The large, bright windows were practically dressed with tri-screen roller blinds to protect the furniture from bleaching and to create a soft pleasant light in the room.
The bright conservatory was the perfect place to coordinate an eclectic mix of premium design furniture with textured tweed, herringbone and linen fabrics. The result was a smart, fresh tailored look that’s hardwearing and easy to maintain.
The windows in the master bedroom were parallel to the tree canopy and consequently the room felt quite dark. To combat this we carefully chose accent lighting, added ammonite for the walls and dressed the room with neutral tones and patterns.
We introduced a seating area overlooking the woodland views as, just like with the rest of the house, we felt it was important to maintain a connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
