Signature Style

This stunning property was originally part of a gentleman’s residence, but is now divided into five properties. Our clients who own the central column, which includes a magnificent staircase and large traditional windows, demonstrated a passion for Nielsen House’s signature style. Therefore, our design for this project took inspiration from the lounge found in the Gilpin Hotel.

Our focus was to create a seamless connection between the Lake District and Scandinavian style, a look that oozed elegance and timeless sophistication. We utilised a palette of soft greys, complemented by earthy tones, soft layers, natural textures and sculpture.

The historical, traditional features deserved to be enhanced rather than removed. We painted the dark pitch pine beams and internal doors to lighten the space and created a complementary balance between old and new. We also kept the beautiful, original, terracotta kitchen floor as a charming reminder of the property’s history.

We chose Herdwick Swaydale carpets and a collection of Lake District artworks for the lounge to celebrate local art and materials. The space would be an awe-inspiring, comfortable family room. In building this environment, we carefully selected and layered beautiful, luxury fabrics. We used two sets of curtains; rich embroidered Deleconia outer curtains to frame the window and a lighter neutral linen set that could be drawn to close.

In the master bedroom, we introduced a half-height partition wall which allowed us to perfectly position the bed for optimum natural light, while also creating a walkway to the ensuite. These schemes were built around a palette of soft greys, layered with a variety of pale pink, mauve and aqua textured fabrics.
